AGDATA in the field: Women in Agribusiness Summit 2019

By Garret Giesler

Empowering Women in the Agricultural Industry

Last month, I attended the Women in Agribusiness Summit in Minneapolis. This summit is put on every year for the purpose of getting hundreds of women in the agriculture industry to network, educate, support, and inspire.

26% of this year’s attendees were top level executives at their companies. Other professionals that attended were in finance, sales, marketing, PR, and operations roles within their company.

We had the opportunity to attend various panel sessions, one of which being the keynote panel discussion of U.S. State Commissioners of Agriculture. Out of the 14 states where women hold the top Agriculture role in the state government, 4 were at the event and spoke on the panel. These women discussed their priorities, and what the future of agriculture looks like in their state.

Some other sessions that I attended included the Female Producer’s Panel, Innovations in Fertilizer, and Trace-ability in the Age of Supply Chain Digitization. I had the opportunity to hear from women that work for various companies, such as Cargill, CHS, Nutrien, and much more!

All of the discussion sessions were incredible, and gave us all insight into the technological advancements that are being made in the industry– and how women are helping pioneer these changes.

This was such an empowering event, and truly reminded me why I love working in the agriculture industry so much. Looking around in the conference and recognizing just how many women are in this industry, powerful women at that, and how we all have the opportunity to connect and transform the future of agriculture.
